Introduction

The OnLogic Factor 201 (FR201) is an ARM edge device built on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4). Installing EVE-OS on an FR201 follows the same image-build process as other ARM64 devices, but requires two device-specific configuration changes: an edit to config.txt to enable the FR201’s onboard subdevices, and (for eMMC-less variants) a grub.cfg entry to direct EVE-OS to install on the internal NVMe drive. Only KVM-based EVE-OS images are supported on this device.

Prerequisites

  • EVE-OS version 14.5.0-lts or later.
  • Only KVM is supported.
  • Docker installed on your local machine.
  • A blank, bootable USB drive.

Build the EVE-OS Installer Image

Run the following command to build a raw installer image for ARM64. Replace 14.5.0-lts with your target version.
The output is a raw installer image at /tmp/eve-arm64-installer.raw.

Flash the Image to a USB Drive

Flash the raw image to your USB drive. See Flash an EVE-OS Installer or Live Image for instructions.

Configure config.txt for FR201

After flashing, mount the first partition of the USB drive and edit the config.txt file. Two lines must be changed. Comment out the TPM SPI overlay line (not used on FR201):
Uncomment the FR201-specific include line:
Save the file.

Install EVE-OS

Boot the FR201 from the USB drive using the USB 3.0 port. The installer copies EVE-OS to the internal eMMC drive and uses the NVMe as the persistence drive. If an operating system is already present on the eMMC or NVMe drives, refer to the OnLogic FR201 documentation for instructions on erasing those drives before attempting to boot from USB.

Configure grub.cfg for FR201 Variants Without eMMC

Some FR201 variants do not have an internal eMMC. On these devices, EVE-OS must be installed entirely on the internal NVMe drive. Before running the installer, add the following line to the grub.cfg file inside the CONFIG partition of the installer USB drive:
This instructs the EVE-OS installer to use sdb (the NVMe device) as the installation target.

Next Steps
