Introduction
The primary interface for managing nodes is through Edge Infrastructure Services, using the console, API, ZCLI, or Terraform. In certain situations, you might need a direct local interface to the node. The EVE-OS (Edge Virtualization Engine) Local UI is a Terminal User Interface (TUI) built into EVE-OS that lets you interact with the node when it is disconnected, air-gapped, or unable to reach Edge Infrastructure Services. Use the Local UI to check whether apps are running, restart a stopped application, investigate boot failures, or re-establish connectivity to Edge Infrastructure Services when the node has lost its connection to Edge Infrastructure Services. The Local UI is enabled by default before a node is onboarded. After onboarding, VGA and USB keyboard access are disabled by default as a security measure. You can re-enable them using the following ZCLI commands.Prerequisites
- EVE-OS 14.5.0 LTS or greater.
- Physical access to the node.
- A keyboard and monitor connected to the node.
Summary Tab
The Summary tab shows a high-level status snapshot of the node. It displays the following information.Change the Onboarded Server
If you have not yet onboarded the node, or if you need to point it to a different server, you can change the server from the Summary tab.- Press Ctrl + S to enter server selection mode.
- Enter the new server name, for example
zedcloud.zededa.net. - Navigate to Ok and press Enter to save.
Network Tab
The Network tab shows all network interfaces and their current configuration, including the origin of the configuration (cloud-applied or locally set), which helps diagnose configuration discrepancies. The tab displays the following attributes for each interface.Change a network interface
- On the Network tab, use the up or down arrow keys to highlight the interface you want to change.
- Press Enter to open the edit view.
- Edit either the IP or Proxy settings.
- Navigate to Ok and press Enter to save.
Applications Tab
The Applications tab lists all application instances on the node with the following columns.Vault Tab
The Vault tab provides information about the encrypted storage partition used by application instances. If the vault is locked, applications cannot run. The tab displays the following information.- TPM Events: Recent events recorded by the Trusted Platform Module, including files that changed and the timestamp of each event.
- Event details: Detailed information for each event.
- Possible mitigations: Suggested steps to resolve vault issues. The cause and its mitigation are separated by a pipe, for example:
Boot options were modified | USB drive was removed, insert the USB drive and reboot. - Expert mode: Intended for use with ZEDEDA Customer Support and Engineering.
- Press F12 to toggle expert mode for detailed diagnostic logs.
- Press F2 to see the diff that might have caused a PCR (Platform Configuration Register) change leading to vault lock.
Dmesg Tab
The Dmesg tab shows the Linux kernel ring buffer messages for the node. These messages record hardware events, driver activity, and system errors since the last boot, and are useful for diagnosing hardware or driver problems.Next Steps
