# Manage Volumes

> View, update, and delete volume instances in Edge Infrastructure Services.

## Introduction

This procedure explains how to view, update, and delete volume instances in Edge Infrastructure Services. Use this guide after you have created a volume and need to update its display label or description, check its current run state, or remove it when it is no longer needed.

### Prerequisites

* You have the SysManager or SysAdmin role in your enterprise. See [Manage Roles](https://zededa.mintlify.site/new-ui/infrastructure-services/administration/manage-roles.md).
* At least one volume instance created in your enterprise. See [Create Volumes](https://zededa.mintlify.site/new-ui/infrastructure-services/volumes/create-volumes.md).

## View a Volume

1. In the sidebar, click **Infrastructure > Workloads > Volumes**.
2. The **Volumes** list shows all volume instances in your enterprise with their name, type, run state, and the node they are assigned to.
3. Click a volume name to open its detail page.

The detail page has four tabs:

* **Overview**: A summary of the volume including type, run state, size, and recent activity.
* **Details**: Identity fields (name, title, description, type, access mode, encryption status, creation and update timestamps), and the node or cluster the volume is assigned to.
* **Configuration**: The storage configuration, including type, size, disk space used, access mode, encryption, multi-attach, label, and application image.
* **Used by**: The resources that use this volume, with each resource's type, node, relationship, and status. The **Relationship** column shows **Attached** or **Configured**. For a volume that holds a node's EVE-OS base image, the tab shows the node that uses it.

A **Notifications** bell icon in the upper right of the detail page shows a color-coded badge when EVE-OS has reported errors, warnings, or notices for this volume. Click the bell to view each notification with its severity, explanation, and suggested fix.

## Update a Volume

You can update a volume's title and description. The name, type, access mode, and assigned node cannot be changed after creation.

You can open the configuration from the list page or from the volume detail page.

**From the list page:**

1. In the sidebar, click **Infrastructure > Workloads > Volumes**.
2. Hover over the row of the volume you want to update. A **Configure** (gear) icon appears on the right side of the row.
3. Click the **Configure** icon. A configuration dialog opens over the list.
4. Update the **Title** and **Description** fields as needed.
5. Click **Save**.

**From the detail page:**

1. In the sidebar, click **Infrastructure > Workloads > Volumes**.
2. Click the volume you want to update to open its detail page.
3. In the upper right of the detail page, click the **Configure** (gear) button.
4. Update the **Title** and **Description** fields as needed.
5. Click **Save**.

After saving, the updated values are reflected on the detail page.

## Delete a Volume

Volume instances cannot be deleted if they are attached to more than one edge application instance.

1. In the sidebar, click **Infrastructure > Workloads > Volumes**.
2. Click the volume you want to delete.
3. In the upper right of the detail page, click the **Delete** (trash) button.
4. Review the confirmation dialog. If dependent application instances are listed, detach the volume from those applications before proceeding.
5. Click **Confirm** to delete the volume.

After deletion, Edge Infrastructure Services returns you to the **Volumes** list and removes the volume from the list. The storage on the node is released.
