# Install EVE-OS onto OnLogic FR201 ARM Device

> How to build, flash, and configure an EVE-OS installer for the OnLogic Factor 201 (FR201), a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4-based ARM edge device.

## Introduction

The OnLogic Factor 201 (FR201) is an ARM edge device built on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4). Installing EVE-OS on an FR201 follows the same image-build process as other ARM64 devices, but requires two device-specific configuration changes: an edit to `config.txt` to enable the FR201's onboard subdevices, and (for eMMC-less variants) a `grub.cfg` entry to direct EVE-OS to install on the internal NVMe drive.

Only KVM-based EVE-OS images are supported on this device.

## Prerequisites

* EVE-OS version 14.5.0-lts or later.
* Only KVM is supported.
* Docker installed on your local machine.
* A blank, bootable USB drive.

## Build the EVE-OS Installer Image

Run the following command to build a raw installer image for ARM64. Replace `14.5.0-lts` with your target version.

```text theme={"dark"}
docker run lfedge/eve:14.5.0-lts-kvm-arm64 installer_raw > /tmp/eve-arm64-installer.raw
```

The output is a raw installer image at `/tmp/eve-arm64-installer.raw`.

## Flash the Image to a USB Drive

Flash the raw image to your USB drive. See [Flash an EVE-OS Installer or Live Image](https://zededa.mintlify.site/new-ui/infrastructure-services/eve-os-installation/flash-eve-os-image.md) for instructions.

## Configure config.txt for FR201

After flashing, mount the first partition of the USB drive and edit the `config.txt` file. Two lines must be changed.

Comment out the TPM SPI overlay line (not used on FR201):

```text theme={"dark"}
# Before (uncommented):
dtoverlay=bcm2711-spi-tpm-slb9670,ce=0x01
# After (commented out):
#dtoverlay=bcm2711-spi-tpm-slb9670,ce=0x01
```

Uncomment the FR201-specific include line:

```text theme={"dark"}
# Before (commented out):
#include fr201.txt
# After (uncommented):
include fr201.txt
```

Save the file.

## Install EVE-OS

Boot the FR201 from the USB drive using the USB 3.0 port. The installer copies EVE-OS to the internal eMMC drive and uses the NVMe as the persistence drive.

If an operating system is already present on the eMMC or NVMe drives, refer to the [OnLogic FR201 documentation](https://support.onlogic.com/documentation/factor/) for instructions on erasing those drives before attempting to boot from USB.

## Configure grub.cfg for FR201 Variants Without eMMC

Some FR201 variants do not have an internal eMMC. On these devices, EVE-OS must be installed entirely on the internal NVMe drive. Before running the installer, add the following line to the `grub.cfg` file inside the CONFIG partition of the installer USB drive:

```text theme={"dark"}
set_global dom0_platform_tweaks "eve_install_disk=sdb"
```

This instructs the EVE-OS installer to use `sdb` (the NVMe device) as the installation target.
